The Stadio Meazza will be completely destroyed as part of the construction of Inter and Milan's new stadium, which is scheduled to be completed in 2027–2028, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter and Milan have decided to completely demolish their old residence.
The Cathedral proposal, which the two Milanese parties agreed to at the end of 2021, must now go through a public discussion. The two teams will discuss their stadium ideas and the requalification of the San Siro area at ten meetings over the course of the upcoming month.
The Stadio Meazza should be built metres away from the Cathedral, and the original idea only called for a portion of the stadium to be demolished.
However, the two clubs have decided to demolish San Siro between 2027 and 2028 once the new stadium is ready in order to reduce the amount of cement in the area and showcase a more sustainable and "greener" proposal.
The construction of a new stadium near San Siro continues to be a priority for the teams, but Milan and Inter do have Sesto San Giovanni as a backup plan in case the Cathedral idea is rejected following the public debate or if it takes too long to get started.
